Various research studies have already focused on the health benefits of moderate wine consumption.  A recent article by Debra Gordon in Health Magazine revealed 6 more reasons why a little wine each day may do your body some good!  Here’s a summary of her report:

1)  Feed Your Head – A study conducted by the University of Arizona School of Medicine concluded that wine could preserve your memory.   It helps prevent clots and reduce blood vessel inflammation, both of which have been linked to congnitive decline and heart desease.  Alcohol also raises the good cholestorol, which helps unclog arteries and promote good circulation.

2) Helps You Loose Weight – Studies report that people who drink wine daily have lower body mass than those who only indulge occasionally.  Moderate wine drinkers have narrower waists and less abdominal fat than people who drink liquor.  Alcohol may encourage your body to burn extra calories for as long as 90 minutes after you down a glass.  (Beer also has a similar effect).

3)  Boost Your Body’s Defenses -  A British Studyhas revealed that for those who drank roughly one glass of wine per day reduced their risk of infection being iinfected by the bacteria thats a major cause of gastritis, ulcers and stomach cancers by 11%.  Another, Spanish Study, revealed that as little as half a glass daily may also guard against food poisoning caused by germs like salmonella when exposed to contaminated food.

4)  Guard Against Ovarian Issues – Australian and Hawaiian researches recently compared women with ovarian cancer to those without, they found that by consuming one glass of wine daily, seemed to reduce the risk of the disease by as much as 50%!  It appears that Wine is high in antioxidants or phytoestrogens which have high anticancer properties.  A University of Michigan study confirmed this when a red wine compound helped kill ovarian cancer cells in a test tube.

5)  Builds Better Bones – On average, women who drink wine moderately appear to have higher bown mass than those who don’t.  The Alcohol appears to boost estrogen levels and slows the body’s destruction of old bone more than it slows the production of new bone.

6)  Prevent Blood-Sugar Trouble – According to a 10-year study by Harvard Medical School, premenopausal women who drink one or two glasses of wine per day are 40% less likely than women who don’t drink to develop type 2 diabetes.  It appears the wine reduces insulin resistance in diabetic patients.

So there you have it!  At least one glass of wine a day promotes a healthier lifestyle!   Join us for lunch or dinner at Little Hills or stop by the Wine Shop and purchase a bottle of your favorite wine to take home!

It’s been since 2006 when the Harley Owner’s Group (H.O.G.) MO State Rally has embarked on St. Charles, but we’re happy to welcome them back!

September 9-12th, 2009 you’ll find Main Street and the surrounding area full of Harley Davidson Motorcycles and general Harley enthusiasts.  Harley Davidson Dealerships sponsor Rider Groups/Chapters across the nation.  Every year, each state has a State Rally where all the Chapters in the State are invited to get together.  In the State of Missouri, there are 14 Chapters.  There are 7 Chapters within the St. Louis/Illinois metro area alone.  When speaking with their Rally Coordinator, Brad Sabol, he said they’re expecting over 800 riders and their families to visit the St. Charles area between the Convention Center and Main Street during the three day event.

We hope that they get a chance to visit our restaurant, and if so, please take a moment to comment on our blog about what your visit!
